Junior Boys Rugby Team
Yesterday the U14 boy’s rugby team had a blitz in Kilfeacle R.F.C. Their first match was against Nenagh. The first try of the game was scored by Jake Fitzgerald. The second by Rhys Byron. Nenagh came back and scored two tries levelling the game. Both teams played well but in the end it stayed 10 – 10.
Their next game was against Thurles. In this game both teams put in a good effort and with the pressure building up the Thurles defence crumpled and with a huge effort from Steven O’Leary making a very important tackle and an amazing interception from Jake Fitzgerald, who made a break for the try line, the Colaiste took the lead. The next brake was an amazing run from Denis McCraith who got through two tackles finally grounding the ball, putting the college even further in the lead. With a few minutes left Thurles were growing desperate and eventually found a gap in the Colaiste’s defence but it was not enough to win the match which went to the deserving team. The match finished in a close but victorious 10 – 5
The final game was against The Abbey of Tipp town who are known for their strong rugby team. The game didn’t start of well for the Colaiste with The Abbey scoring two tries one after the other, but the Colaiste weren’t finished yet with a huge effort and deciding tackle from Billy English the ball was knocked loose and yet again Jake was on the ball and scored another try. Shortly afterwards with a huge drive from the forwards, Steven O ‘Leary grounded the ball to make it an even game. There was a valiant effort from both teams but with a late try from The Abbey they won the game. The final score was 15 – 10
